About Faculty

We are a team of highly motivated teachers and researchers who share a strong commitment to top quality academic standards and an international focus. We come from different backgrounds (Northwestern University, Pennsylvania, New York, Davis, Yale, Harvard, Minnesota, Rochester, Columbia, Boston, Chicago, European University Institute, Carlos III, Pompeu Fabra...). We are driven by a firm belief that this diversity is our strength.

The IDEA faculty is made up of members of the Department of Economics of the UAB and the Institute of Economic Analysis (CSIC). Many IDEA professors are associated to MOVE (Markets, Organizations and Votes in Economics), the new economics research institute in the Bellaterra campus. MOVE conducts high quality research in the areas of Mechanism Design, Quantitative Economics and the Economics of Science and Innovation. The main objectives of MOVE are to promote excellence in research, to attract the best talent to Barcelona, to foster scientific exchange and cooperation and to support graduate education in economics.

We are proud to have among us faculty who have been awarded prestigious academic recognition and awards including a Rey Juan Carlos Award, 2 Rey Jaume I prize winners, several Catalonian Government young researchers winners, Prizes for Research and Innovation, Doctor Honoris Causa and winners of the Arrow Prize in Theoretical Economics. We are active in national and international associations and participate as Fellows and/or Council Members of the Econometric Society, the European Economic Association and CESifo.

We promote strong links with the private sector and members of the IDEA faculty are active members on the board of directors of some of Spain's most important banks, national electric company (IBERDROLA), and other companies, foundations and associations.

We specialise in different fields related to economic research and are involved in many research projects in microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics, financially supported by grants from the Spanish Ministry of Education, the Catalan Government European Commission and from private sector institutions such as the BBVA Foundation and the Ramon Areces Foundation.

Our international commitment has helped to establish a series of strong links with institutions from around the world and our faculty is enriched each year by the presence of visiting professors invited from top class universities and research institutes from Europe and the USA. We are honoured to include in this international visiting faculty names such as Matthew Jackson from Stanford University, Joel Sobel from University of California, San Diego; Jennifer Reinganum and Andrew Daughety from Vanderbilt University; Hervé Moulin  from Rice University; and Timothy Kehoe from University of Minnesota whose presence has served not only to enrich our programs and research, but to forge and establish relationships which continue to strengthen the experience of IDEA faculty and students alike.

We are also committed to participating ourselves in international events, congresses and fellowships, and in this sense are represented in all major economics conferences, as visiting professors in universities abroad. Members of our faculty participate on the editorial boards of journals such as Games and Economic Behavior, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Social Choice and Welfare, Journal of Macroeconomics, Macroeconomic Dynamics, Journal of Mathematical Economics, etc.
