The International Doctorate in Economic Analysis (IDEA) is a program that dates back to 1991 and was originally inspired by our Economics postgraduate courses initiated in 1976. IDEA was founded on the basis of our conviction that in Spain we needed to provide channels to enable research in economics at the highest possible levels and today we are proud that international rankings have placed IDEA as one of the top doctoral programs in economics in Europe (IDEA was designated as group of excellence by the EC’s program in Human Capital and Mobility, and Training and Mobility of Researchers program).
Our program focusses on an international outlook, in terms of students and faculty, a broad range of subjects, national and international networking and a prestigious team of faculty actively involved in initiatives such as The Barcelona Graduate School of Economics, and the recent organization and hosting of the highly successful EEA-ESEM 09.
Our faculty is drawn from members of the Economics Department of the UAB and the Institute of Economic Analysis (CSIC) together creating one of the strongest research groups in economics in Europe. In addition, several internationally renowned researchers are invited on a regular basis as visiting faculty, based on their excellence as researchers, teachers, and tutors.
More about IDEA
IDEA is a truly international program, in terms of vocation, faculty and student intake. The instructional language is English. Our students come from countries worldwide and from all regions in Spain. Not only do we pride ourselves on the wide scope of subjects covered in our program but also on our first class student support system which provides help, advice, individual tutorials at all levels, from application to eventual qualification and finding employment. We believe our support system is second to none.
Admission is based on academic excellence and references, and is very competitive. Entering classes each year are approximately 20 students. Since 1994, 135 students of IDEA have obtained a PhD. Grants are awarded on a competitive basis to all students.
The program provides special training and support to students who are in the job market. We offer indivual advice and help with job applications, interview techniques ETC. We organize annual jamborees and job markets and believe this extra effort pays off: the excellence of IDEA graduates is best demonstrated by the success of our placement (see our graduates) |
