Introduction to the Department
Welcome to the web page of the Unit of Economic Analysis (UFAE) of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. The UFAE is part of the Department of Economics and Economic History, and it has a long and outstanding tradition of excellence as a training and research institution in Economics.
Our faculty is a small international community in which hiring and promotion follow competitive rules for the highest quality, as it is done in the best departments all over the world. In spite of being relatively small in size, our faculty includes several first line specialists, and our research interests cover a wide range of fields in Economics. Furthermore, we benefit from a number of visitors from other departments, and from several part-time professors.
The UFAE has a very active research life. We offer several specialized seminars (jointly organized with the Institut d’Anàlisi Econòmica, IAE-CSIC) and workshops that meet on a regular basis. We also have a permanent participation in many international meetings and congresses. All this activity of discussion and exchange of ideas results in a large number of scientific publications in international journals, chapters in specialized books, a working papers series, and other articles of wide circulation in Spain.
In terms of training and education, the UFAE offers many courses in several undergraduate programs at the UAB. The Unit also offers the International Doctorate in Economic Analysis (IDEA), which is member of the European Network for Training in Economic Research (ENTER). The UFAE also participates in the master Models and Methods of Quantitative Economics (QEM), an Erasmus Mundus Master Program offered by a consortium of four European Univesrities. Students at the Ph.D programme come from countries all over the world, and after graduation, they continue their careers in both, academic and non academic positions.
